Ever thought about a 5 string ABG tuned E-C?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Jamiebass, Aug 20, 2007.

  1. I've been thinking about getting a fretted Michael Kelly 5er and stringing it E-C. I think it'll sound pretty cool for chords/solo stuff. The necks on them don't budge, (dual graphite support rods), so I figured it'll handle the tension change. Probably change the nut though....

    Any thoughts???

All you have to do is do a set up really. It is possable that you'll have to do some nut work, but many people run a 5'er with E-C tuning.

  3. Yer, Wooten has his fretted 5 setup like that

  4. Tune E-B and you can play standard guitar chords... I know a guy who does this on a 5-string.

  5. That's what I was thinking, tuning E-B might be better. I remember reading somewhere that Jack Bruce used to tune a 6 string the same as a guitar.
