One of the best performances from some of the finest musicians ever to walk the planet. This is just stunning. Jazz rock fans will love this.

This is really sweet! I recently got into fusion, LOVE IT, and had never heard of these guys.

Colosseum II were one of the best jazz rock bands of that era. This music had a brief moment of being hip, then sort of disappeared without trace. It's a shame, because it was really something special.

They did three albums - Strange New Flesh, Electric Savage and War Dance. All are well worth checking out. I spent ages trying to get these on CD a few years back, but the availability is better now, I think.

  4. Pretty interesting. Kind of reminds me of some of the earlier Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Sad to say that the bassist John Mole passed away in 2006 at the age of 57.

Wow, that was about as funky and soulful as a sci-fi novel.

I dug both versions of this band. I wish Gary Moore would do another fusion-ish project.

  9. That was a neo-classical prog rock treat!

I've listened to Colosseum II's 1st album 5,000 times. Neil Murray rocked on bass. I especially love Mike Starrs vocals.

  11. Pretty much had me at the minimoog.

This looks like some stuff I'd like to pick up on vinyl. What albums are recommended?

Any idea what kind of bass that is on the stand you see from the back at 3:57?

Shergold would be my guess. A favorite of prog rockers of the day...

They did three albums - Strange New Flesh (with Mike Starr on vocals), followed by Electric Savage and War Dance (both these had no vocals and a different bassist, John Mole RIP). This 2nd lineup is the one on the video and mp3 in this thread. But all three albums are worth getting. Good luck finding them! Electric Savage on used CD is going for $99 on Amazon.

You can buy tracks from the first 2 albums on mp3 downloads, but not War Dance from some reason.

I'm amazed that Don Airey (the keyboard player) was actually 30 when this video was recorded. He looks about 18!
