Exactly how hard should turning a truss rod be?

Sorry if this has been answered a million times already, but I can't seem to find an answer. If there is a topic that already goes through this detail, a link to it would be fine. I tried to tighten the truss rod on my bass, and there was some resistance, and I've read that if there is resistance, you should stop. How much resistance are we talking about? How hard should I have to turn the allen key to move the rod? Any insight would be very appreciated.
  2. It shouldn't be any harder to turn a trussrod than it is to turn on an overtightened tap...
