These are all either left handed basses strung right handed (low strings on the bottom) or right handed basses simply flipped over without restringing.

I know there are a bunch of random threads on this, but I thought I'd try to put some examples together in one place. These guys are monsters and even manage to pull off slap. I'm sure I'm going to forget a lot of good players, so free to add any others.

And for those players whose videos are linked here, please know that it was done with the utmost respect.

    Keith Horne

    Stan Sargent

    Jimmy Haslip

    Jeff Schmidt (fretless)

    Jeff Schmidt (piccolo)

    Wayman Tisdale

    Larry Williams

I do the inverse on my restrung lefty MIM J but these guys are all way way better than I am. :) (I can safely say that without even listening.)

    Bholder,

I hear you. :) These players were included for inspiration, NOT comparison. If I compared myself to ANY of them, I'd be putting my bass in a fire.

Nah, I just listened to a bit of my own stuff after and I was right back in my wrong mind. :D The gastrointestinal distress does take a while to clear, though! :woot:

Waaaay back I saw the Steve Miller Band on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. When I was a squirt this came on the tube Sat nite late. The cat playing bass had a lefty P Bass turned upside down righty. This made my stoned teenage brain itch trying to sort it out:D. Great player BTW. I'll have to snoop around for video...

    Emblymouse,

You weren't far off: lefty body with a righty neck, strung right handed. (I saw the stringing in a different picture). Pretty impressive for a stoned recollection from 45 years ago. :)

You could have checked me out on my teacher's gibby thunderbird bass a while back. Only I'm not famous and a few of the above players are hands and shoulders better. But anyway he had a righty and I played it upside down. That was the first bass I'd ever played. Honestly, when I play upside down there are cool things thst are easier to get from playing that way. I just hate bumping the tone knobs but other than that its fun.

Even though he plays right handed, Andy McCluskey has to count:

    Shorthand,

I never heard of them before your post. Thanks for turing me on to them. I can't understand a single word, but they're pretty awesome.

Bumping the knobs doing everything upside down and backwards in a world built for right handedness.

I always have liked this guy's bass playing, even if it was upside down...
