For whatever reason, the conductor at my school doesn't usually provide the required excerpts for auditions in the fall and this year there are some that the bass studio is ripping their hair out trying to find! Copeland- Symphony No. 3 Janacek- Sinfonietta (can't find anything for these)
Sometimes you just need to photocopy the score, use a roller cutter at Kinkos (or whereever) and cut out the bass part, line up the little strips, then tape them down to a blank sheet and photocopy the results. Or you could try to contact the local symphony or university music department to see if you could borrow am actual bass part and photocopy that.
Looks like I'm making a trip to the music library on monday and/or buying the orchestra TAs a few drinks. Thanks for the tip.
tell your conductor that he is stupid. To ask the passage from that janacek is stupid. I have played that with some real serious orchestras and it was not much more than a controlled fake. Sorry you have to go through that man
Ask your conductor for the excerpts if you can't find them. It isn't reasonable to ask students to find excerpts on their own that are that obscure. Or, you could try doing what was suggested above and find a score, make a copy, and cut out your part and make your own sheet music for the excerpt...
