Hey! I just signed up to talk bass talk!

I was woundering how long people have been playing bass and at what age they started.

I started playing Electric Bass in 2004 at the age of 10 and am now have distinction in grade 7. In feburary I aquired a double bass and have been playing it for a while at gigs etc (worked out how to play it myslef along with a few helpful tips)

So how old were you when you started playing? also is it impressive to have a 14 year old playing bass or does that not seem very young?

Welcome aboard! I started at age 15 sometime in the 80's so I guess to some that would be a LONG time ago. Don't worry about what impresses other people. Just do your thing and good luck!

I think I started bass at about 15, though I played ukulele, guitar, and trumpet for quite awhile before that.

It doesn't matter when you start, as long as you start, and keep going.

It's a stupid movie, but I just love that scene in CANNONBALL RUN where the Italian driver rips the rearview mirror off the windshield of the Ferrari and says "what's behind me is not important..."

I started playing the double bass in Jr. High when I was 11. I'm still playing 30+ years later. (Or at least I still TRY to play!) It's never too late to start playing the bass, but the earlier the better!
