Curious - Anyone running a PC with no internal sound card, using only an external recording device such as an M-Audio Firewire 410 or Lexicon Lambda for all inputs and outputs?

I use a Presonus Firebox as the only audio device on my PC.

Anything in particular you have a question about?

Just curious. Yesterday, through experimentation, I answered my own question.

For a while I was trying to run an audio set-up using either an M-Audio Firewire 410 for input, and using an Audigy for output, connected to my stereo and monitors. I never recorded much because I always had latency issues, plus, I want to use a linux based studio set-up, and the FW 410 is absolutely not compatible (the driver hooks into the MS kernel). So I recently bought a Lexicon Lambda. It's USB 2.0 and works well on any platform. But I was still getting latency problems. Yesterday, while waiting for a reply, I ditched the Audigy all together and started using the LL for both audio in and out.... And guess what? No more severe latency!

So, after promising to lay down a few songs for soooooo many years, it looks like I'm out of excuses and will be recording today.

    Cool, glad ya got it.

I have my Firebox connected to a pair of M-Audio Monitors for mixing etc, and also take a spdif out of it to the optical in of a Sony receiver to test my mixes on a common home setup.
