Looking for replacement knobs for my '85 JB Special. It has the origional "F" knobs, but I lost 2 of the caps and rubber grips. I saw what these were going for in Reverb and although I love my bass, I don't love it THAT much.... Although I would have taken better care of the knobs if I knew it would double it's value. That being said, I am looking for suitible replacemnts for knurled split shaft pots. I think i've been through every knob on Amazon and they either don't fit, or are of some kind of shoddy contruction. Black prefered. I might take the one goof F knob I have left and refinance my house with it.
Haha they can't be that expensive, surely this is over dramatic. Types in Reverb, f knob Oh dear god!!! $75
I have two of them that aren't being used at the moment. This is what they look like... https://images.reverb.com/image/upl...upersize/v1624666938/qfeaubqlvuwdfmuimbaq.jpg
Just be thankful this isn't an Elite, then it you might have to chase those fine-adjustment bridge tuners too. And yeah OP, good luck finding one that doesn't cost a fortune. Heck, even finding them can be a trick.
I'm guessing it is these ones: https://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Fender_1982_Precision_Elite_files/T1.jpg But, it might be plastic, like these:
I just need something that will fit and looks nice. Black knurled metal ones, or even plastic. I don't care at this point.
Oh. That's not mine, although I did have a red one like that back in the 90's. The extra knobs I have are from a MIJ MB-5 from 1994. I posted that picture to show what the "F' knobs look like.
The bass in question would have the plastic ones. As far as I know, the Elite and Elite II are the only basses that had the metal ones. All the Fender Japan basses with the F knobs had the black plastic ones.
Yep. To replace the knobs on your bass, you need the foreign type of splined shaft knobs. US knobs won't fit. All-Parts and some others makes knobs that will fit the Japanese type of split shaft pots, though.
Search the threads in Off Topic for "3D printing". A member there posted a last year that he had a 3D printer and would print things for fellow members. I guess you'd have to send them your good knob so it could be scanned and printed. EDIT: Here's the thread and there is more than one member maybe, possibly, perhaps willing to assist. 3d printing
Thinking about this more and I've never liked the pots in this thing. I think I'm going to take it in a completley differnt direction and go wtih a TBX tone pot for each PU and an concentric linear volume pot. Then I can just go with any off-the-shelf solid shaft knob.
