I just finish this yamaha BX-1 bass. It used to be in black color. It was old and dirty. I hand sand and stain. The body is so beautiful. Don't know why Yamaha decided to paint over this beautiful body.

Looks great! I think the target market for this style bass in that era was not interested in a natural finish. My guess is the options were gloss black, white and red. Flashy stuff. Good job, now you have a very unique instrument!

Probably not the bass on the actual track, but here's a 21st Century video with a BX1.

  8. The target market was probably people who wanted a Steinberger which most definitely did not come in a pretty, wood finish. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a couple of Steiney’s, still do, and I love them. To the OP: that looks really good. If I could find a reasonable deal on the 5 string version I’d pick it up!
  9. I have one of those still. Have not played it in twenty years, but used to use it a lot in the 80's

Very cool. Nice job. Reborn, now go rock it!
  15. I remember that I loved that bass back in the day. It played great, looked cool, and I played the hell out of it. Super light and no neck dive. I even had a custom case made by Calzone. Exactly like an Anvil case, but all red with my name on it. Damn, I used to be so cool.

Very nice job, looks wonderful! So what does it sound like and how are those pickups? They look big enough to do the job.

There's something really satisfying about seeing a cool old bass get a facelift or restoration that genuinely improves the bass. Looks great!
