Fake Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by jojobean39, Aug 21, 2012.

  1. I saw this in a pawn shop today and I am curious to it's authenticity. I'm actually rather convinced it was a fake, but I never saw any good pics that would help people, so I figured I would throw the thread up. Maybe someone can tell me if my suspicions are correct.

It actually plays REALLY nicely. But it's light. I've only owned a Bongo before, but I have played a few Stingrays in the past. They were all pretty dang heavy. This bass is light. I didn't plug it in, as I didn't have time.

I'll tell you the things that were suspect to me:

    1. Unevenish string spacing.

    sr009.

    2. Bad neck/body joint.

    sr008.

    3. No serial number.

    sr004.

    4. The body is a two piece but it seems like an odd joint. Maybe I am wrong.

    sr003.

    5. Funny looking headstock???

    sr002.

    sr001.

    6. Shady bridge???

    sr010.

    sr011.

    Input wanted please.

    Thanks!

Stingrays have a six-bolt neck. That's definitely not a Stingray bridge either. As the other's have said, definite fake. The angle closer to the body (behind the G tuner) is wrong as well.

Does that sticker in the last pic on the bass say $99 or 599? If it plays good, for $99 that wouldn't be too bad of a deal.

    Grab that upright !

someone has no idea what they are worth ...

  17. Glad everyone confirmed it. Thanks guys. It does feel really nice. It's not for me though, it's for my friends who are visiting from Ireland. I went by and looked at it for them.

It's actually a cello, not an upright. It seems nice actually, but I don't know anything about them. It's old though. It has a "serviced" sticker in it from 1967.

I wondered why this didn't become a thread about buying an upright bass for $349. OP, where is this shop again?

[EDIT: read the rest of the thread. New question, has anyone ever used a cello as a shortscale bass?]
