Who do you rate as a famous, but mediocre bass player?

Do we really need this? Gonna make you feel better that it doesn't just take talent to get famous and rich? We have threads about this already, and they're plenty juvenile and immature as is.

Just thought it would be an antidote to all the hero worship musicians get because they can zip their fingers around a fretboard with unbelievable precision.

I've seen typists do this on a computer keyboard and they never seen to get any recognition.

    Actually I considered myself...

    Then I considered saying "IBTL"

Then I considered saying Pete Wentz (conformist)

    Then I considered saying myself.

  7. Oooops,I'm not famous,it's just the voices in my head cheering me on. :help:

  8. define medicore? do you mean someone who doesn't shread? bassists in bands like sterophonics and snowpatrol dont do a hell of a lot of fancy stuff but I've never heard them called medicore.

Is it too early to pronounce this thread a FAIL? Don't worry kid. It happens to the best of us.

PS. Cyber, 5 String.... do you guys need to start another "Insult the person above you" thread? We're on, what fourteen or fifteen of that thread???? :)

Are we talking mediocre from a technical point of view?

I mean, Paul Simonon ain't much from a chops standpoint, but I'll take "London Calling", "Guns of Brixton", "Bankrobber" etc. over pretty much any of the Jaco stuf I've heard.

  16. ^ Gives a rip.

But seriously. You should ask this question of someone who has actually STARTED said threads.Said threads existed before I joined.Thank you, drive thru please. :)

    Hi,

I think maybe what the guy is getting at is why do we all go in for this hero worship thing?

And the assumption that the word 'mediocre' means 'bad'. And anyone who is famous who doesn't play like Jaco should be pilloried.

Can't we spotlight bass players who are average yet who play popular music that we enjoy.

    Just a thought.

    Paul.

  18. 1st, shredding is about technical precision and dexterity, something we all should be aiming to achieve.
2nd, John Myung, Enthwistle, Billy Sheehan etc. Enough said there!
3rd, whats wrong with being a guitarist. I started on flamenco.

  19. Is it not a paradox to be famous and mediocre? Even in the cases of players like Pete Wentz, they're hardly mediocre by any stretch, if they can make thousands playing their instrument. Its far more than i'll ever achieve.

These threads are the pits, there should be some sort of filter for them! :p
