It might be cliche, but I love Spirit of the Radio. The close second would have to be the overture to 2112.
Well, I'm a big fan of the "post moving pictures". I personally like a lot of the material done in the eighties. A big fave of mine is The Pass off of Presto. I like Tai Shan, High Water, and Open Secrets off of Hold Your Fire. But Hemispheres and Vital Signs are absolutley great.
"Turn the Page" from Hold YOur Fire is a favorite. Try singing and playing it at the same time, see if your head doesn't explode before you finally get it.
It's hard to choose just one song, but maybe it'll be Free Will. And every song from "Moving Pictures" too.
all of 2112 also the full Cygnus X-1 (books 1 and 2) Natural Science Xanadu and dont forget yyz freewill analog kid fly by night bastille day fountain of lamneth driven half the world stick it out animate bravado dreamline the pass force ten subdivisions limelight working man camera eye the trees lavilla strangdiato circumstances
Rush is my single bigggest influence and inspiration, I'm afraid I must go with the 'too many to list' option.
I would have to say Freewill, Spirit Of Radio, and all of 2112. Can't forget YYZ though! Oh, there is 1 more that isn't just Rush. There was a band called Max Webster around awhile ago that had an album called Universal Juveniles, and they did a song on there with Rush called Battlescar. Has to be 1 of my favorites, if you like Rush you need to check this song out.
Even though I was a Rush fan prior to its release, "Moving Pictures" was really THE Rush album for me. "Limelight" has always been one of my very favourite songs by the band. The intro guitar riff to that one is still one of the best in rock. Second to this would have to be "Subdivisions" from the also-immensely-cool "Signals" disc. Those ultra fat Oberheim synth sounds are killer on that one! Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed and admired the earlier epic progressive stuff. But, the move toward something a little more condensed and pop-ish (but still retaining some of their signature progressive elements) appealed to me in a big way.
What Your Doing! off the first Album! Great tune to play and it was the first Rush tune that I ever heard and it made a impact for life.
I have to go with "new world man".... there are some great bass parts, I love the intro, and the lyrics are really cool... reminds me of a Robert Heinlein novel.... [email protected]
