Favorite album covers

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by Peter McFerrin, Jul 9, 2002.

  1. What are TBers' favorite album covers? An explanation of why would be nice.

    I'll start:

-Weather Report, Black Market: Pretty colors, and I dig the Bosch-goes-to-Africa feel.
-Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), African Marketplace: Same deal.
-King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King: That was what my face looked like the first time I heard "21st Century Schizoid Man."
  2. Megadeth - Youthanasia (just awesome)
Platypus - When pus comes to shove (very simple but very nice colours)
David Bowie - Earthling (quite simple but really cool)
    Boston - Third Stage
Eagles - Desperado (the front pic gives the album all the character to make it the Eagles's best album)
Devin Townsend - Terria (great photography and overall great artwork)
Steve Morse Band - Stressfest (don't know why, just like it)

    and there are more....
  3. Almost every Yes album has a great cover.. I love them .. they've been all painted by Roger Dean..
  4. oh, I like "under a blood red sky" by U2 very much too, just the shadow of Bono on a red background, great!
  5. Dwarves "Come Clean" album; Two naked women in soap suds, and a little person with a scrub brush. What more could you need?

There are a few that Roger Dean didn't do the cover for. The first two, Yes and The Yes Album. Then there was 90125 and Big Generator. On their album Talk, Peter Max did the cover artwork. :)

Some of my favorite album covers are:

    Rush - Fly By Night
    Rush - Test For Echo
Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans
Yes - Yesshows (I have this for my desktop wallpaper)
    The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
    Martina Mcbride - Emotion (woo-hoo)
Jethro Tull - Beast and the Broadsword
Genesis - Trespass (I don't know why I just like that one)
  9. Test for Echo has great artwork, period...I love the winter motif.

Roger Dean's weird Yes and Uriah Heep covers. I thought the Pink Floyd Umma Gumma album with the picture in a picture in a picture in a picture etc. was a great idea. I liked Captain Beyond's 3D album cover. Todays tiny CD art doesn't compare.

Everclear - "Songs From An American Movie, Vol. 2: Good Time For A Bad Attitude" (it's an american flag, but with orange and black instead of red, white and blue).

Pink Floyd - "Echos" (the greatest hits, with all the rooms into other rooms and each room has a whole bunch of PF "memorabilia").
