I'm a newbie. I dont know what's been discussed already. So....
    What is your favorite bassline?
I particularly like "Voodoo" by Godsmack, "Re-arranged" by Limp Bizkit, and "Dawn patrol" by Megadeth.
    Your opinions.

    Hm.

    You know...

    Wait.

    Not that one.

    Maybe that?

    No...

    Awh jeez, i dunno.

Wait! Yes i do! Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sellouts, by Less Than Jake. I love that song, specially the bass. Took me forever to learn, tho. Oh well, was worth it, and now it's my infamous demo tape song.

Re-arranged is a cool bassline, but i still haven't gotten that down...can't do the hammer on in the riff...i just can't do it. I hate hammer ons. I probably could figure it out, but let's make excuses and say that it'z cuz of my small hand.

    Heh?

    Funny story,
I have an mp3 of Re-Arranged because i like the song, and my dad one day was driving home and listening to WEBN ( a really good rock station, my favorite station) and they played it.
He came home picked up my bass, and then started playing it. Then, he taught me how to play it.
It was kind of weird for me, because my dad does not like a lot of new bands, and I dont either, some songs I just like.
It was weird for me...I guess.

Your dad can pick up the bassline that easily? Wow. Now that's power.

If you want some phat bass lines, check out John Myung on any Dream Theater or Platypuss Cd or Tony Levin on the two Liquid Tension Experiment cd's. Really complex $hit, but totally awsome. As for the Rearranged hammeron, don't worry about it, instead of trying so hard, just don't even think about it, and all of the sudden, it will just happen. Try and feel it, instead of anticipating it. Thats what worked for me when I learned the song.

I must say that my favorite bassline is The openning to "The Price is Right" (just listen to it sometime, and if anyone has it, please send it so me!!) followed closely by almost everything by RATM.

    High Lord Peatroosio has spoken.

  9. The little part that kicks off the solo section on "school days" by stanley clarke.

Its gotta be Paul Chambers on "So What" from Kind of Blue. May be kind of old, but its just so smooth...

    Hey Biski,
I just heard "Johnny Quest Thinks Were Sellouts" on CDNOW. Pretty cool bass, the song is not too bad either.

  14. I would guess that "Marathon" from Santana is at least one of my top three favorites. It's hard to just pick one.

Squirrelie- I just made that one up when I joined the forum. It was supposed to look like a P, but they don't have curvy lines in ASCII so it kinda ends up looking like a Dimebag Darrel guitar. Oh well. I dig it.

One of my all-time favorite basslines to play (not necessarily listen to) is "Secrets" by The Cure. It's one of their really early songs (off the album Seventeen Seconds). It drives the song, it's fairly simple, yet such a smooth groove. Starts low, then works it's way to the top of the neck. Reminds me a bit of playing guitar, but hey i like it. Goes something like:
do this 2 or 3 times I think:

    D -12--9--16--14--12--11--12--14-

    D 16--17--19--16--14--12---------------------
    A --------------------- ---10--9--7--5--4--0-2-

    then:
    A -2----
    E ----3- for a bit

    change to:
    A 2-2-0-----2-2-0----------------------------
    E-------1-0-------1-0--3--3-3-0-2--3--3-3-0-2-

then repeat the top, and the outtro has a few changes in there I forget off hand. Simple, but smooth. Bass is the lead in this song.

oh, move that 10 up top over a space, so it's 10-9-7 etc etc.... just realized, just single sounding notes.
