What's your opinion on the best body material (ie wood, composite) to use for a elecric bass. Since there are so many different genres of music that all have different styles of playing also name the type of genre you think that that wood fits in best. It's multiple choice so you can choose more than one.

You should split "ash" into two categories: Hard ash and swamp ash. Swamp ash is the lighter and more musical of the two (by far). Hard ash is the heavy stuff they make baseball bats out of. It is nowhere near as musical. Often, cheaper "ash" basses are made of hard ash. People who play them assume they don't like the sound of ash.

Walnut for complex mids. Or heavy ash for piano clarity. Light ash offers very little low mids to the bass IMHO

Are we talking strictly body wood or wood that might be used as a top? When I voted; I was thinking tops, hence the Zon photo I included in my other post.

  13. can you describe the sound of zebrano?

  14. I'm partial to mohogany for bodies, as well as ash.

For necks, I prefer composite necks.

For fretboards, I prefer composite as well ^_~

I like composite, top it with a wood if you must, but thats what I like the sound of!

  17. Alder. I dig it simple. Ash works in several situations as well, but a nice resonant piece of Alder is what gets me every time.

Toss up between alder and ash - just because that is what I am used to. I went with alder.
