Are there some covers that you think are very different but still works of art? What are your favorites?

    I particularly like
Whiskey in the Jar by Metallica
Ghost of Tom Joad by RATM
    Flea Fly by RHCP

I like the originals of all of these also, interestingly

    And two covers I hate:
    Satisfaction by Britney Spears
    American Pie by Madonna

I love that cover, it's as good as the original but in a totally different way... if you follow. The original Simon & Garfunkel version is very simple, basic, and to the point. It's an excellent song. Yes took it, kept the lyrics and vocal melody, and turned it into an twisting, complex prog-rock piece that is totally and utterly cool. I really enjoy it when bands can totally change a song from the original and still have it be just as much fun to listen to. :)
  9. Come Together - Marcus Miller

Best cover of this song I've ever heard, and I've heard lots.

    What a cat.
  13. I love Cake's "I will survive"

Man, I love that cover. I really enjoy covering songs that rock, but just don't know it yet. Alien Ant farm's cover of Smooth criminal is a good point. Goldfinger's 99 luftballoons is another.
