Dark Side of the Moon is without a doubt....their best album. And it's great when played synchronized to the Wizard of Oz...Dark Side of the Rainbow is cool!
The Older Syd Barrett era material is an acquired taste. I voted Meddle..but Ummagumma was a close second...still only have The Older Pink Floyd material on vinyl..never got around to getting 'em on CD...someday.
I couldn't decide between Dark Side, Animals, and Wall. So I voted Wall. I don't know, I've got a thing for rock operas and trippy movies.
I voted for The Dark Side Of The Moon, because it's in a class by itself. Wish You Were Here would be second choice. The only others I've heard are: Animals, Meddle and The Delicate Sounds Of Thunder. How many of you have heard this one? http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=60220174 I've only heard it once, but it is wild! Cellos and violas pounding out "Money." A must hear. Mike
Delicate Sound of Thunder baby. Disc 1, Track 1 - Shine on you crazy diamond... live. Best Floyd I've ever heard.
Meddle or Animals. Youy also left out Is There Anybody Out There? That was The Wall live when Rog was still in the band. Should have been the official release of The Wall.
animals, meddle, wish you were here, dark side. all such classic tracks! i really liked a few of david gilmour's solo stuff, too -- the self-titled album, and one i can't remember the name of. "until we sleep" is the opening tune, if i remember correctly.
Really depends on my mood. If you're in a really bad/hate the world type mood, Animals is great (and an underappreciated Floyd album in general). If you're in an introspective, wistful mood, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here are great. If you're feelin' kinda bluesey or trippy/spacial, then Meddle is hard to beat. And, of course, if you feel like you're losing your mind, just put "Careful with that Axe Eugene" on a loop and start bouncing off the walls!
Hmmmmmm..... no Works or Relics.... Have to go with More, then... Although Obscured be clouds is close behind... I really like their earlier stuff...though I like it all.
Have you heard les claypool's cover of animals with the frog brigade...? It is quite good...he seems to treat floyd's material with such...reverence...
This should be one of the hardest questions I've seen in along time. I for one can't settle on just one album, depending on my mood, dictates which album is that best (for that situation). Some are certainly Epic, while others just wonder along taking you for the ride. I seem to see Floyd divided into three era's. 1.) With Sid Barrett 2.) Without Sid Barrett 3.) Without Roger Waters With that, my favorite era would have to be #2. I like the Beatleskness of the earlier stuff, and can appreciate their new stuff without Roger Waters, but the meat in the middle is what satisfies my hunger for Floyd. ~Cheers~
