Once upon a time there was a preamp named "Alembic". He was a happy little preamp because he was so creamy and smooth, the end.

I, too, have an Alembic F1-X which I love. I doubt (Sure, I say that now.) that I will ever part with it. I also have an Aguilar DB659 which I have decided is just a bit too hi-fi for me so I may very well replace it with an Ampeg of some sort. Probably an SVP Pro.

Why is it I seem to have an affinty with preamps which begin with "A"? Is there a pattern emerging here?

    P.S. I didn't vote. I can't make up my mind.
  5. True Voice preamp, that's all I have to say :)

Ampeg SVP-PRO. Cheap, tubey, multiple preamp outs, DI out, simple enough that it sounds great flat, while having enough knobs that if I have a twiddle attack, I can start spinning and sliding willy nilly.

It was a tough call for me between TE and SWR. I had to give it to SWR by a nose, although I've only tried the GP12SMX. The V-Type sounds like it might be a good balance between what I'm used to out of both.

I've been really digging on the Electric Blue as a preamp for the last few months (and even more now that it's going through an NV610), although lately I've really been wishing I hadn't sold my IOD.

Mine is the Glockenklang - totally uncolored, fast, and true to the sound of the bass. Can't ask for anything more!

    I've only tried 3:
    BBE BMax
    BBE BMax-T
    Fender TBP-1

All of them are great preamps, they sound better than all of the heads i've used before. I prefer the tube preamps. So the Bmax-T and Fender get my vote.

    Take care...

wow, that's like asking which of your kids is your fav. :smug:

but as of now, in the jokey stable:

    1. Kern IP-777
    2. Aguilar DB680
    3. Epifani Quest II
    4. Avalon U5
    5. Presonus Eureka

all killer, yet do different things, and still, all dear to me. :)

    spam alert!

btw, have an Alembic F-1X and Demeter VTBP-201s for sale soon. lemme know if y'all are interested...

I like vintage tone. My favourite preamp would be the Intersound IVP.
    Remember them?
