Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by page, Jan 18, 2005.

  1. Progressive rock, is rock that combines other styles of music, or so says the mighty google search. Its a broad genre and Its among my favorites. I am a Prog nerd and play it everyday with my band. So , name your 7 favorite Prog Albums. If you question if something is prog or not , then post it anyway and im sure it will be discussed. So , go ahead , if you cant name 7 , then name as many as you can. So lets hear em TBers!

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia or The Sky Moves Sideways
    ELP - self titled
King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black
    GSY!BE - F#AOO
    Rush - Permanent Waves
The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium
    Opeth - Blackwater Park

Honorable Mention (though people who over-categorize genres might not agree with calling them Prog)

Candiria - 300 Percent Density, mixes metal, hip hop, jazz, and ambient soundscapes; sounds like prog to me. :D

I really like the one where they play all fast and showy.

Every CD I have is played by guys with capes. I refuse to love any one of them more than the others.

Coming from him, Wrong Robot that is, I would say that statement was totally in jest. I remember more than a few "Chops-buster" videos/songs that he has posted here (Classical Thump, Chromatic Fantasy, etc.) :D

Seriously though mine would be something by King Crimson but it's hard to say which...it changes day to day.

I really like Absent Lovers - Live in Montreal 1984 but I've also been really digging Heavy ConstruKction as well. I've always been a fan of the 1980's era Crimso and I really like Three of a Perfect Pair too. It's pretty surprising that two people in a row listed Lizard as their favorite Crimso.

    I also really like:
Genesis - Lamb Lies Down and Selling England by the Pound
    Magma - Live, Kohntarkoz <sp>

    brad cook
  13. Spock's Beard- Snow
    Transatlantic- A Bridge Across Forever
    Genesis- Foxtrot
    Opeth- Deliverence
    Ayreon- The Human Equation
Dream Theater- Scenes from a Memory
The Mars Volta- Deloused in the Cremetorium
    Rush- Moving Pictures
    King Crimson- Red
    Marillion- Misplaced Childhood

Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
    Rush - 2112

  16. I.................havent bought my cape yet. :(
  17. Dream Theatre - A Change of Seasons

Pink Floyd - The Wall / Animals / etc... not sure if this falls into the prog category or if it's more just concept albums
  18. :sigh: One doesn't buy one's own cape. It is awarded based on merit (street cred), ability (chops), and the demonstrated ability to properly punctuate contractions (havent [sic]).
