Favorite Rhythm Section

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by HHHolmes, Apr 2, 2003.

  1. Of course I'm preaching to the choir when I say that a good bassist is the key to any band:D

But having a solid drummer behind you is always on the top of my wish list when I enter into a new project.

Who are your favorite rhythm sections??

    I'd start with:

Sting / Stewart Copeland > Police (duh)
    Pete & Bruce Thomas > E. Costello/Attractions - were they brothers?
Colin Moulding / Prairie Prince > XTC
Bill Wyman / Charlie Watts > Stones (2x duh)

Guess I'll give someone else a turn...

    Definitely! The hook and PapaZita!
Benny Benjamin was the main Motown drummer until he died, but Uriel Jones and "Pistol" Allan also played drums for Motown, as well as Jack Ashford and Eddie "bongo" brown on percussion. Anyways, Jamerson and anyone who can keep a beat makes an awesome rhythm section.

Here's some of my other favorites:
Donald Duck Dunn & Al Jackson
George Porter Jr & Zigaboo Modeliste
    Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare
    Les Claypool & Tim Alexander

    Seriously.

Andy Dickinson/Johnny Machin - Lo Fidelity Allstars (the groovin'est)

I'm not really a fan of Mudvayne, but if two things about them are fantastic, it's Ryan Martinie and Cletus Mcdonough (okay, I don't know his first name).

Les and Tim - I think they represent really well why bass and drums are condidered one unit.

I'm thinking of others, but really I'm thinking of superb drummers with okay bassists, so I'll save that for another thread.

  13. John Patitucci & Dave Weckl

    Billy Sheehan & Virgil Donati

    Dirk Lance & Jose Pasillas
