Favorite Synth Hooks

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by page, Mar 15, 2006.

  1. I'm a huge fan of late 70s early 80s new wave. I have a massive collection of this New Romantic era in lp(right up there with my doom and prog cds:) )

One of my favorite things about this music is the budding , experimentalish use of synths. We all know there is those ridiculously catchy synth lines that you can't stop humming all day long.......

So name your favorite synth parts of any era ....

    Mine are :

Flock Of Seagulls - Wishing I had a photograph of You

Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark( I hate Springsteen though)

Houses in Motion - Talking Heads

Ghost in You - Psychedelic Furs

Mother Russia - Sisters of Mercy

and of course : THE ENTIRE GARY NUMAN CATALOUGE!!!

    So have at it.

    Atlanta / Macon (sigh)
Gallien Krueger for the last 12 years!
    New Toy - Lene Lovich
    The Metro - Berlin
Turn It On - Marilyn Martin
Mama Used To Say - Junior
Keep On Loving Me - The Whispers
Don't Disturb This Groove & You Are in My System - The System
    Hey DJ - Supreme Team
Radio Silence & Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby

  3. Leonard Cohen- "First We Take Manhattan". The synths on that whole album (I'm Your Man) are pretty nifty, as well.

Woodchuck beat me to "The Metro"...BTW, a damn good one to practice, at tempo, for EB.

  5. Devo - Entire catalog
Modern English - Melt With You
Shake it Up - the Cars
Kraftwerk - Was there anything BUT synths there?
Oingo Boingo - Dead man's party
The beat goes on/Switchin' to Glide- the Kings (oops... that's organ...)
Walking in LA - Missing Persons

I am a fan of that era too... Whenever I crack open Reason and compose it always ends up sounding that way... I am gonna be brave now and offer a sample... Please be kind - this is just a ditty, not a finished song by any means. But my friends from "back in the day" who liked that sort of thing are collaborating, long-distance on this and other pieces like it... anyhow... without any further ado... Tony's synth pop ditty...

No way I'm the first: Parliment "Flashlight!"

Kraftwerk's Radio Activity album is very inspirational.
