While not the usual book you'll see listed here, some of you may find this interesting:

Landon has a great writing style that is easy to deal with. But what is interesting is the kind of thing that Haydn (1732-1809) had to deal with. Problems with orchestra members, his dealings with Prince Esterhazy are quite like what many go through with club owners. Composing all the original music that was demanded of him, and dealing with a wife that just didn't understand what he was all about. Often we think of all that old stuff as high stuffy art but in the end, every musician from the begining of time has had to deal with the same kind of problems. Drinking, drugs, an audience that just doesn't get it and looking for that next gig.
