I have always liked Joe Satriani. His modes just stick with me. I also like Keith Richards & Pete Townsend for various musical reasons. I have always loved Bill Bruford's drums & tone as with Phil Collins' early Genesis years, and Charlie Watts. Getting into newer Country Music has revealed a lot of fine playing by numerous studio cats that are keeping my ears busy during otherwise simple Hick-Rock, Hick-Pop songs. Blake Shelton's Who Are You When I'm Not Lookin' is I think, a terrific country song: as is; Be Cool If You Did: Both have nice bass lines too.
Obviously I could go and list musicians for days, but apart form the obvious ones... I've been going through a phase of listening to John Frusciante. He's Jesus with the voice of an angel and an amazing musician too. All his solo work, his work with RHCP, Ataxia, The Mars Volta, it's all amazing. Also there's this guy
I would have moved Hendrix up quite a bit, and made a few other changes. But you have made some great selections. Not too different than what I would have done.
Hendrix is no doubt the best guitarist of all time, but his piece never really got me as hard as the other 5 guitarist on the list.
All lists in alphabetical order by last name: 5 Favorite guitarists at this exact point in time (all lists could change later): Jeff Beck Glenn Kaiser Phil Keaggy Albert King Christopher Parkening (And lots of runners up--these are favorite to listen to--but others may have been a bigger influence on my playing) Drummer: Tommy Aldridge Ed Bialach John Bonham Jonathan Mover Ian Paice Singer: Robert Plant Mahalia Jackson Ian Gillan Buddy Guy Sister Rosetta Tharpe
I would rate him above Gilmour and Page. My favorite guitarists are George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix. Of course, I like all the others, too, that are on the list.
