So in a FB page devoted to helping musicians connect locally, one band member posted (again) looking for a bassist, and commented about "how hard it is to find a good bass player in this area" or words to that effect.

To which his last auditioner replied, more or less, "Maybe if you didn't smoke weed and drink alcohol during auditions, and maybe if your drummer could keep time and your singer didn't sound like a cat in heat, you'd find a good bass player."

The post was a flame -- it was removed shortly after -- but as someone who has auditioned under circumstances like that, I have to admit I welcomed seeing the issue acknowledged. People should know that if you want to be taken seriously when you audition someone, showing up stoned/drunk for the audition doesn't gain you any credibility.

I'd say we've all been thru that gauntlet and have war stories to share when older.. but yeah... it's a hard fact.
Just read some of the audition stories on this site and that one can sense the truth in it!

Didn't sound like a flame to me. Part of the problem in today's society is that to say anything negative about anything, however true it may be, is not accepted and will get one labeled as "a hater" (man, I hate that term ... ;)). Everything falls under the "be nice rule". Everyone's great, everyone's a winner. Fact is, when it comes to difficulty finding good bands and gigs, most people are their own worst enemies.

  4. Booze , drugs , a screachy singer , and a drummer with bad timing. And they want a good bass player? Freekin amazing. :rollno: Problem is , they probably think they are a really good band. Booze and drugs will have that effect.
