I am in the process of buying a 15/6/1 cab. Eventually i want to buy another cab. What i am wondering is would it be best to buy a 15 sub or should i get another 15/6/1?
Great question, I wanna know too, particularly since I'd like to use the 15 sub as a PA sub for drum kick live in some applications
yeah i already contacted barry audio, i am just waiting for my income tax check over $9000 to buy myself new gear.
If you go with two 15/6's get a reversed baffle on one so that when you stack them, the mid drivers are next to each other.
Hi CL400 what do you think i am leaning towards the 15/6/1 and a 15 sub, will two 15/6/1 be that much better?
I would start with a 15/6. If it has enough mids for you add a 15sub. If not add a second 15/6. two 15/6's Pros: You have two fully functioning cabs. Your EQ becomes a powerful tool. A little change makes a big difference, so you can get a lot of different sounds from one amp. Cons: You may not be interested or like how much response you get with two of these cabs inherently. You may have to play with your EQ a bit to get the sound you desire. 15/6 + 15sub Pros: Your EQ becomes a powerful tool. A little change makes a big difference, so you can get a lot of different sounds from one amp. You will have less mid presence, and that may work for your sound. Cons: you dont have two fully functioning cabs. Or you just get a 1515/66 and call it good.
A 15/5+15sub will be cheaper because only one crossover and mid driver needed. A 15/6+15/6 will allow you to have a cab at different locations.
Personally I like the form factor of a 1515/66. I find having tilt back casters is what I like. I can lift a 100 pound cab no problem, so weight isnt an issue. That said, Im getting a second fEARful so I can have one at home, and at practice.
It somewhat depends on your style of music, but most people are happy with 15/6+15Sub. regarding placing cabs at different locations: You can do this, but a general rule of thumb would be greater than two wavelengths in the passband or you will get cancellations. This would mean your cabs would have to be about 55ft apart.
+1.....here's hoping his house and his rehearsal space are more than 55ft. apart. OP, those mids run plenty hot, and I think are already padded back about 3db in the full range cab. I'd like go with the sub as the second cab too. Toss it under your fullrange for a big bass stack, or run some kick to it as a sort of dual purspose cab. When putting kick in it....I used to stack my sub under my bass stack when I didn't have enough channels to put us all in the PA. Sub ran kick, bass rig carried the room. Not your ideal setup but it worked better/sounded better than having the bass rig on stage and sub out front. I didn't know it at the time, but I assume because all the low end was together, not separated. If you have enough channels for everybody, place the sub properly and use the single cab for on stage.
Haha, wow I feel silly. Need more coffee... Very true. If the increase in price of having two 15/6s is worth not schlepping a cab every week to rehearsal, then yes, this is a very good idea. Thanks wcriley for pointing this out!
IMO only disadvantages to the 2nd 15-6 are cost and a little weight. May as well have a pair of full range cabs, although I can't imagine needing more than a single 15-6.........wanting, maybe, but not needing, LOL.
Another 15/6/1. If it was me - I wouldn’t add a sub. Instead I’d slave a second amp driving another incidental 15/6/1.
If you're really wanting a sub for the band as well as a fEARful bass cab, look into a dual 3015LF sub box and a single 15/6/1. The one cab would be all you'd need on bass and the sub would then put the proper whump under the band and could be separated from the bass rig, wall loaded, etc.
Thanks for the response guys. I currently use a markbass 210 with a 115 traveler but i kept reading about how great the fearful cabs are that i decided to buy one from barry. I am going to buy a single 15/6/1 first and if that is enough i will stick with it.
Well the sub would be for me not the band they have their equipment already i just want to upgrade to the best thing possible. I don't like the idea of a 1515/66/1 because of the weight, also i dont know how loud a single 15/6/1 will be, that might be all i need in the end.
