Feedback Wanted - Aguilar DB410 vs Ampeg SVT410HE

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by MentalBass, Mar 31, 2021.

  1. Hey all,

I’m in the market for a 4x10” that gives as best an approximation of the Ampeg 810e sound as possible.

I’ve got it narrowed down to either the Aggie DB410 8-Ohm version, or the Ampeg SVT410HE.

Has anyone A/B’d these and is able to provide some feedback?

I’m after that punchy, hits-you-in-the-chest sound to compliment my Mesa Powerhouse 4x10.

The ampeg will have much less max volume and lows. It sounds great but since its sealed and small, the overall response is pretty tight. The DB will put out roughly the same max volume and bass as the 810e because its ported and has high power handling. The sound is different but also great and on the “vintage” end of things. Another good option is a bergantino nv610.

    Too much hip thrust
I spent a lot of time with a DB 4x10 and tried to like it. Has nothing on the PH. I would just get a second, I rocked 2 PH410s for a while and it was awesome but heavy.

I have not played the Aggie. I can tell you that the 410HE uses the same drivers in almost the exact same tuning as the 810E, but it has a tweeter. The volume of the chambers is slightly smaller in the 410HE and of course you only get half as many drivers, so you want get as much lows and low mids. Turn off the tweeters and run a pair of 410HEs and its very, very close to an 810E.

Mixing either cab with a Mesa Powerhouse 410 is a crapshoot. You're better off tracking down matching Mesa 410 if you plan to run both cabs at the same time. Here's one of my links that will provide three links to extended posts I have written on the subject: Help!

Sorry I don't care to write on this any more on this subject at this time.

    Good Luck!

If you want the Same Sound Just get the Ampeg 410he. I have both. (Ampeg 810/410) The two sound much the same. To me anyway.
