    Just noticed the 2018 replacements for the Standard MIM series are now live on the Fender site. Maple and Pau Ferro fingerboard options and it seems like there are more colours available than before. :)

    Player Precision Bass
    Player Jazz Bass
    Player Jaguar Bass

    This maple neck Jaguar looks tempting...

    They show up on the UK site, but not yet on the USA site.

    Maybe I'm missing it, but I can't seem to find any real difference between these and the good 'ol Standard Series. Just a marketing refresh?

    Alnico 5 pickups, new colours, spaghetti logo and a F stamped neck plate seem to be the main differences.

    I thought fender is not using rosewood on the Mexican made basses. Didn't know it was an option... That's good.
    Got to be careful, many have Pau Ferro in the Morado family.

    Those look like awesome modding platforms to me!
    ...especially that jag!
    And finally a passive jag with a maple neck with the satin finish.

    Tried one today at GC. I just may buy it! Couldn't find any mention of it on the Fender web site and have looked several times. Oddly, when I enter the serial number on the Fender "look-up" page it pulls it right up, correct color and all.....pic from the search....It said "Pau Ferro" on the tag and it is lighter colored than what I call "rosewood"....

    Finally managed to track down all the options on offer.

    The Precision and Jazz come in;
    3-colour sunburst (M & PF)
    Black (M & PF)
    Polar White (M & PF)
    Tidepool (M)
    Sage Green Metallic (PF)
    Sonic Red (PF)
    Buttercream (M)

    The Jaguar is only available in;
    Tidepool (M)
    Sage Green Metallic (PF)
    Sonic Red (PF)

    I have product photos of them all if anyone is interested in a particular colour.

    Yes! might look better with rosewood board but either way, I'm into it.

    If these are anything like MIM 2017 standards, they are legit and all american parts. Even the construction is really clean compared to prior MIMs. The cost cutting was in the pickups, but it sounds like they may have changed that on this run.

  20. These look really nice, can't beat an MIM Fender for a reasonably priced working-man's bass. They're really a steal secondhand, give it a few months and there will be plenty of these in the classifieds ;)
