Newby here. This is a great forum ... and I thought I'd share this. Got me a jazz bass 5 string. The serial number is 10xxxxxx. The 10 is also slightly larger than the other 6 digits no alphabet prefixes before the numeric serial number. Some of the websites that allow you to enter a serial number showed that it is an American made JB in 2010 ... but some said it was not valid. So, I was not sure if this was a real or fake JB. I contacted Fender via their chat site and this was the conversation ... (relevant parts of the chat only). Chat started: 2018-11-28 12:16 AM UTC (12:16:19 AM) ME: Hi ... would you be able to tell me how, with certainty, that a Fender bass is an American Jazz Bass? Thanks (12:16:29 AM) *** Support joined the chat *** (12:16:57 AM) Support: Hello, I would be happy to take a look. What is the serial number? (12:17:19 AM) ME: 10xxxxxx It says it is made in USA (12:17:32 AM) ME: There are no letters in the serial number (12:18:48 AM) ME: There tuning knobs at the back where it partially covers the gear wheel has an F on them too. (12:19:03 AM) Support: that serial number is not coming up in our system but we certainly will put a letter prefix signifying country of origin (12:21:34 AM) ME: So is there any other way I can verify this bass? (12:21:54 AM) ME: ... or are you saying it's not made by Fender? (12:35:54 AM) Support: I took a look and ran the serial number in another database and it does come up as an American Standard Jazz V in 3 tone sunburst from 2010 (12:37:42 AM) ME: Really appreciate this.
