I just got a Fender 51 Reissue MIJ
Sunburst with chrome covers,a case, and set of strings for $625
Anyone out there know if its a good deal or not?

Either way I am happy with the price I paid for it.

New? That would be top-dollar for used.

That's about right. I paid $600 for a MIJ Paisley used. Sold my MIJ flower for $700 a few years back.

Those finishes are worth something, though, because they're long out of production. Straight '51? No way.

    This.

If you enjoy the bass and the price, you got a killer deal. The price you paid is not really a "deal" though, it is an appropriate going rate.

And yes, we will all need pics.

Fender seems to bring some into the country every couple of years. Japan never stops making them I don't think. I think the Sting sig version might fetch a few more dollars.

  10. I understood these were out of production now...(?). I sold one in "honey blond" (more like school bus yellow) for $525 with no case about a year ago....

Don't see these around too often lately.

I see them going for between $1,200-1,700.00 on Ebay, new from Japan. I don't know why they sell for that high of a price. Between $600 and $800 would be about right.

I was trying to find one that did not look so "school bus" colored. They do vary in color. Nice bass though, IMO.

With that case and covers, I think the price you paid is a good deal. I have a 1992ish Sunburst MIJ that has a great neck, very light and resonant. The older ones have no rout under the PG and the large size string ferrules.

Excellent! Much, much better than the school-bus yellow finish of recent years IMO, even if it isn't historically accurate. Also, no Stinglay.

Too bad these seem to be pretty rare.

I wanted a 2 tone 57 AVRI and a 51' Blonde but I figured this one would satisfy both. And it does. I also could not find a Blonde one that was not bright bright yellow haha.

    and no Slinglay! :)

I might get a black one or a parchment colored one.
