Fender am dlx V. The good, the bad, and the ugly

    Just got my new (scratch and dent) Fender american deluxe V
    from Musicians Friend. THE UGLY: Supposed to be tobacco
    sunburst, but is in fact turd brown to light brown. The bass
    looks like a turd! THE BAD: G string tuner is so bent that its
    almost unturnable. The screws holding the neck on were all
    about 4 turns loose. The neck was moving all over the place.
    The active electronics were broken. My volt/ohm meter says
    no current even with two new 9 volts. AARGH!!!!!
    THE GOOD: The Musicians Friend rep was completely cool. He
    apologized over and over again. He insisted I don't pay for the
    return shipping and offered a number of options to make me
    happy. Great customer service! However, its a drag that they
    would even let this dog out the door without someone looking
    at it and giving it a once over.

    Considering the volume of business they do, it's probably inevitable that a lemon makes its way to the consumer. When that's the case, it's how they handle their biff that makes or breaks them, in my book. The fact that they're so willing to make up for it shows that they have a good customer satisfaction policy. Good stuff!

    edit: What was the final fix? Are they refunding your money or sending a replacement bass?

    They are refunding my money. I was hoping they would give
    me another bass at the same price, but no go.

    I think that was too much to expect ... MF customer service is actually really impressive.

    I almost pulled the trigger on this deal Glad Idid not.. I am sorry this happened to you. I have bought a few things from MF on the dent and scratch section and usually have a hard time even telling it was used or what the problem is.

    I really applaud MF(iend) for the good customer service, but seriously...how the schmack do they let stuff like that out the door? If it shipped in that pathetic state, its pretty apparent that no one is checking out instruments prior to shipment. I'd think they'd be MORE likely to do this with a scratch and dent...just to make sure its functional. That kind of stuff makes me MF'ed (miffed). I guess try before you buy makes ever increasing sense.
