I would say both current MIMs and MIAs are between 8.75 and 9.75 lbs.

The answer is with any wood/natural product. Varies by density.

Your question is specific to the "American Standard" ?
Well I have played a bass that is 9.5lbs.for many years so using that as a guide...when I pick up the new Am. Stnd. Jazzes they are a good pound less than that on average.

I know these basses are fairly heavy but they sound great!

    Those weights are light!!!

Some basses, Fender or otherwise, are up to 14 Lbs!!

    Does it really matter?

Basses are gonna vary even if they were made on the same day by the same person with the same woods. And then people change out the preamp, change the pickups, remove the pick guard, install ultralights to shave off .27 oz....

I'm not trying to discourage you with my question. I have some heavy basses and some not so heavy. Doesn't affect the way I play or which bass choice to make. A heavy bass will not discourage me from using it on a gig.

Too much focus around here on "what does that bass weigh" and "what is the string spacing." Play it & make some music out of it.

It matters to people with back or shoulder problems. Someday you might be more sympathetic to the physical plight of some of us old farts.:)
