I am looking for a classic ramones/Green Day Pop- Punk sound. I currently have the factory P's in my Fender American (Along with the annoying S1 Switch). Recently a friend has brought to my attention the Basslines Qtr. Pounders. For 65 bucks i really cant see my self doing wrong however, I know people mostly mod mexican basses with them; What about American basses, Are the pick ups any better for my sound? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks Alot
    Michael

Mike, I'd recommend a DiMarzio Model P replacement pickup. I'd also ditch the S-1 switch while you're at it. I've had a few P-Basses over the years and I've tried the Duncan Quarter Pounders, DiMarzio Model-P's, and EMG model-P's. I've liked each brand/model for certain things. I'm thinking the DiMarzio's sound will be right up your alley.

    My 2 cents, -Art

I don't have experience with either, but if I'm not mistaken, the Dirnt sig has quarter pounders in them.

Actually, it has some kind of Fender custom '59 pickup, not a Quarter Pounder.

I used to have a DiMarzio Model P, and it absolutely nailed Mike Dirnt's tone. Trouble is, I didn't like it for much beyond punk/hard rock, so I replaced it with a Duncan Basslines SPB-2 Hot for P-bass, which to my ears has more vintage warmth. It would be great for punk too, but it's not as grindy as the DiMarzio.
