Just noticed whilst looking at some NAMM pictures over at The Dudepit that Fender are reissuing The Bass VI.

This instrument gets dicussed every so often on TalkBass - just thought there might be someone else out there interested in this:

    Ya they looked nice!

  3. They were actually reissed in 1993.

    Is this a new reissue?

    Treena,
I've just been doing a bit of quick research on the web: it seems that there was a limited run produced in the mid-90s. This is just another run I believe. I know that the high demand for Japanese Fenders has led to a number of models being made available outside Japan again (such as the paisley Strats).

I'll be interested in giving a Bass VI a try if I ever see one.

  5. Thanks David.

I have one of the '93 reissues, and I really enjoy playing around with it.

    Treena,
Just curious - how do you use your Bass VI? For doubling basslines ("tic tac"), or on its own?

I don't show them in the 2004 Frontline but those two were at NAMM this year. I think they may have been Custom Shop instruments as they had finish checking consistant with a "Closet Classic".

Thanks for the information Dude. I had assumed that these were reissues, as a lot of rarer Fender models have reappeared recently as Japanese reissues.

PS. Thanks for taking all your NAMM photos!

  10. Yes, I do double my Fender lines, just like you hear on the Beach Boy Surf stuff.

I also like to do solo's with mine, it "plays" and feels more like a Guitar, I use alternate tunings as well.

Like I said...I think these two may have been Custom Shop instruments. I don't see them in the current (2004) Fender Frontline.

this is just a silly name for a baritone guitar, right?

  16. Yes, on the headstock it says Baritone, or at least mine does.

GC, San Jose, has the reissue from 1993, they list for $995.00.

I have no idea what those in the photo go for!

Baritone tuning is B-B or C-C, either a fourth or a fifth down from standard. The Bass VI is tuned EADGBE an octave down from standard.

edit: and bari's are usually 27" or 28" scale, the Bass VI is 30".

Those look nice. No mention on Fender's website though.

Here's a great website dedicated to these Bass VI's and what Rick Danko (R.I.P) did with them in his early career.
