    Hey guys,
I’ve got a Mexican Cowpoke p-bass that I need a replacement neck for. This bass has a 22 fret neck, and I’m having a hard time finding a replacement neck with 22 frets. I tried a standard 20 fret neck, and the intonation was a half step off by the 12th fret, so unless I reposition the bridge, that’s not an option. Any ideas?

Is the neck damaged so badly it needs replaced? Any competent Luthier should be able to correct just about any issue on a neck with the exception of total damage. Even in that case a new neck could be made.

Short answer, no. The frets are worn badly, but could be replaced. The fingerboard has some dipping from about the 7th fret and down, from years of playing with rounds. I just thought replacement would be an easier fix, that I could do myself. Also, as much as I love this bass, l always wanted to try a maple fingerboard on it.

OK I understand. Then again a Luthier could fabricate a nice Maple board and install it for you. In fact that might be way cool as you could do flame or birds eye Maple.
