Fender Custom Shop ’59 P Bass pup

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Brotha Chris, Nov 24, 2005.

  1. I used to own a Fender Mike Dirnt sig., but eventually had to let go of it after many problems. so now i'm customizing my own precision.

i've the the majority of the equipment i need to really make it great, but the thing i loved most about the MD sig. was the pickup. can't find it anywhere.

anyone know where i can find a '59 custom p-bass pup?

    thanks in advance.

to my knowledge, that was one of the few pups Fender made specifically for a bass - at least they're not for sale seperately these days.

Try a TB pup forum search for the pup. There was a guy that had one to move a couple months ago but I lined him up with a buyer. I don't know if they ever completed the transaction or not so he may still have it.

I was just in responding to a PM and saw an old one regarding the dirnt pup and Dirtrider was the TB'r that had the pup. So you can email/pm him if you didn't locate it in a search.

I think it was Angela I'd called about it and the '62 original to my knowledge is the only Fender P available through resale, or at least was the only one they sold. Don't know if they had it in stock at the time but I do remember the site said it was out of stock then too - and that's been a couple of months. Those are available on ebay all the time.

Steve "dude" Barr at vintage bass trader (bass trading company - can't remember which) would probably be a good contact for details as to the difference - if any. It's not like Fender to make anything special to my knowledge. I'd say would be more inclined for them to call it something different, but I don't know.
