Bass Guitar Magazine review of the Fender Custom Shop NOS '64 Jazz Bass.

    I
haven't been using this, too many basses, so I guess it's time to go. This is a beautiful true color Lake Placid Blue, Fender Custom Shop NOS Jazz bass. It comes with the original Tort. pickguard (not as red as in the picture) that it came with, along with a Mint Green pickguard that Pickguardian made from the Tort PG. The neck is 1/4 sawn and the rosewood is even richer than in the pictures. I buffed the plastic pickup covers to the correct satin finish, but a new set of shiny black covers is included. Strings are TI Jazz Flats.

This bass is pristine and comes with all the case stuff that came with it. The case is in near-pristine condition except for the ding shown in the picture. Price includes insured FedEx shipping to CONUS. I won't ship Internationally, but I understand there are services in the U.S. that will forward and handle the paperwork; although, I don't know of any. PayPal please.

Thanks, guys. I agree, but I have a 3TSB and don't use this. I do love it, though.

I had one just like yours that was Burgundy Mist in color. I also put a mint green guard on it. It wouldn't have come with a tort guard in 1964. Pretty bass!

I don't really know. It came with the Tort guard, but I was never crazy about it with the LPB; I like the Mint much better.

In 1964 LPB would have come with a white guard that would have turned mint over time. Tort isn't 1964 correct for LPB or Burgundy Mist.

Can't really say that I agree with that blanket statement in the case of Lake Placid Blue ONLY coming with a white guard for 1964.
I have seen Lake Placid Blue, Candy Apple Red, and Fiesta Red with BOTH white and tortoise guards from 1964-65 period.

I have not ever seen Burgundy Mist with a tortoise guard

Oops ..oh yeah I forgot Black Jazz basses came with BOTH white and tortoise guards.
Because most colors were custom ordered, in the process the customer could ask for and receive whichever pickguard he or she so desired.
Much like Fender Custom Shop today..you want a LP Blue with Tortoise guard..presto .....:)

Well, my 64 NOS Custom Shop reissue came with a tort guard. They all did regardless of color, and mine was Burgundy Mist. The first thing I did was switch it to mint. The tort didn't look good on Burgundy Mist at all.

Thanks, I can't either; I thought it was a bargain at the original price. It was a hard decision to sell, but I have it's 3TSB CS sister and I need some space.

I have a CS 64 in sunburst and it has wonderful full rich tone that makes me smile every time I play it. If I didn't have it, this would be coming to NC.
    Great deal! GLWS!

Thanks. Another thing I like is they stay in tune forever; I've taken it out of the case after weeks of not using it, and it's still in perfect tune. The sustain is incredible.

how would you say this compares with the American Vintage '64 Jazz?

If you mean the New American Vintage series (as opposed to the AVRI series), I can't say because I've not played the '64 Jazz. I guess they didn't make an AVRI '64 Jazz come to think of it. I did have an AVRI '62 Jazz, and a couple AVRI '62 P's. The Custom Shops are much better than the AVRI's which were better than the regular American series Jazz and P Basses I've had. I don't think anything comes close to the Custom Shop instruments. My son and I took the Fender Factory tour about two years ago; the guide stressed the extra care and attention the Custom Shop instruments receive.
