Fender Custom Shop PJ - Fake or not?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by DanikDarko, Sep 6, 2016.

  1. I'm up late at night and I stumble upon this -

Fender Bass Guitar (Made in America) with Case

Looks like a Fender Custom Shop PJ (looks like it has EMG's on it and a 9v battery compartment in the back suggests active electronics) with a ridiculous price tag (roughly 335 USD).

I need someone to slap me across the face and say one of two things -

    Option A - You're a dufus and that's a fake.
Option B - Get it before someone else does, douche.

The bass is in another city so checking it out in person will be difficult.
I haven't gotten in touch with the seller yet as I spotted the ad 5 minutes back. My gut told me to trust the experience available on this forum to help validate its authenticity.
I will get in touch with the seller ASAP to get better pictures of the instrument so that it's easier to distinguish.

    Thanks in advance!

Fake. Also looks like it might be infested by termites. I'm not a luthier or an exterminator so I can't be sure.

Best case scenario is a lefty CS neck on someone else's Frankenstein.

  9. You can clearly see they placed a fake Fender water slide decal directly on the finish and didn't even try blend it in or apply a clear coat afterwards. If you're gonna buy this, I'll sell you an awesome Fender P-Bass, made in Indonesia for the same price with the Fender decal blended in nicely. LOL

While that is definitely fake, the sum of those parts are still worth something around 200ish. Nice tuners and pickups (though that routing job looks like a trench on D-Day...).

It might still be a decent bass.

At first I thought that might be an early eighties "special" body with a J route added, but the battery compartment was in a different place, I think. Yeah, pretty sure none of this came from an American Fender factory, or maybe any other Fender factory for that matter.

As others have said, it's so fake it's not even a question. I knew immediately and I'm not even a huge fender guy.

Offer him half the asking price as it's not even worth close to what they're asking.

  20. Custom shop this?? Ah ah ah ...
