    I would like to start this off by apologizing for the glut of "(Which) Should I buy"/"Is this a good price for..." threads I have been posting. Indecision is one of my many flaws.

    Anyway, I have been presented with a great deal on a Fretless Fender Custom Shop Jazz at a Guitar Center. As I have recently sold my MIM Jazz and I am always G.A.S.ing for fretlesses, this should seem like a no brainer. Plus, it is quite a looker with a coated & lined rosewood fingerboard & black body. However, I do have a couple hangups.

    1) According to the person I spoke with on the phone, it is a legit CS Jazz, with everything checking out with Fender. However, he said there is no certificate of authenticity. He justified this by saying that it is a '97, and the CS was not doing the certificates back then. Is this true?

    2) Apparently it was ordered by a celebrity. For the life of me, I can't remember who it was, but how would it effect the value? I am fully aware that this is unanswerable until I know who it was ordered by.

    3) Is $1300 a fair asking price for the above deal?

    In regards to question #2, if you don't have proof, as in a picture of them playing it, it will have no effect on the value. And all of this assumes that the famous person is an "A lister"

    Hangups = don't buy

    Plus, you don't even say anything about its feel, playability or sound. All the other stuff is a bit of nonsense.

    If it was me, I'd save the $1300, save more to double it, and buy a USA Lakland. No hangups there...

    I have seen a 1993 Fender Custom Shop with a Certificate, so that is just salesman BS. If it truly is a Custom Shop, and everything checks out to be in good shape, that is probably a good price. There are models that where called Custom shop designs, that aren't actually made in the custom shop, but I don't know if they ever did that this early. Just something else to look for. If it is truly a custom shop and plays like it, the price seems good.

    As far as I know, I just have the GC salesman's word which he says comes from Fender.

    My hangups are mostly due to my 6 string unlined fretless GAS.

    The problem is, it is in Georgia and I am in NYC. I would be relying heavily on GC's famous return policy before buying it.

    What? I have never heard of this, but I am relatively new to the bass world.

    I believe the Baha Telecasters are a "Custom Shop" design. I don't know everything about everything, but there are probably others.
