My Fender Fotoflame P bass has had serious cracks in the finish for years. I only use it for practice, so I didn't care. But recently large patches have come loose. So, given how well it worked taking the finish off my other P bass, I decided to make the fotoflame a pandemic project.

I always new the fotoflame was a film over the wood, what I didn't know was that the fotoflame is actually a second piece of wood. I assumed the line on the side was where the film ended.

    Here is pic:

The wood on top looks quite different than the wood underneath. Which is sad because I really liked how the bottom wood looked.

If I were a betting person, knowing a bit about Fender’s history of not throwing anything out, I’d place a bet that the bodies used for Fotoflame instruments were likely selected form normal production - the ugliest wood blanks probably ended up in those instruments, with the ugly side as the front, because it would be hidden under the picture of nice wood.

Agreed. It looks like there are tracks from a boring insect on the top of the wood. I tried to take a picture, but it really doesn't show up that well.

Hambuglar on the neck :D I am not touching the neck. This is the best neck I have ever played on. I don't want to mess with it.
