I know the Fender Special Highway 1 basses are new and not much is out on the net about them yet, but I just received mine and thought I'd let you all know what I think. Anyway, I'm completely satisfied with it. The craftsmanship is great and setup was a snap (I didn't need to fiddle around with anything). If you've done any research on these at all, you know that the finish is quite unique. It's a light satin coat, and while I won't go so far as to say it's matte-like, it's considerably less glossy and shiny than the standard coatings so common today. You can fainly see the wood grain through it. Overall, I love the finish (mine is honey blonde, but I like the other three as well). As an added bonus, Fender says the light finish actually creates a better tone (personally, I haven't played enough basses in order to have a feel for if that's true or not), and it supposedly ages very nicely. Other than that, it sounds great and it is just what I was looking for. I'd be happy to answer questions about it if anyone has some.
Well im not a fender head or anything, but i know any thread on a new bass isnt complete without pictures...
I'm hoping that Fender make some of the Highway basses lefty. There are such good value for the money.
