I have a Fender HM that has little, if any, tone control. I can't get any brightness out of it, just soft and warm. The tone pot doesn't feel bad, but I would think that it would likely be the culprit. I'm a tech. My electronics skills are strong. But, I've never had to swap a pot before. In other words, I'm in a familiar neighborhood, just walking down a new path. Any ideas/suggestions?

Try bypassing the tone pot completely and see how it sounds. If it's still warm and lame, then you probably need to look at new strings or a new pickup.

It's got 3 jazz lace sensors w/ a 5-way switch. It's very dull sounding no matter what p/ups I have on.
