I think the correct name for this bass is the Jaco tribute bass. It is the American Vintage Series, not the Custom Shop Relic model. It plays and sounds great.
It has definitely been played. There are scuffs and a few chips around the body. I tried to photograph the major ones. Also, someone decided to install a pickguard. I don't know why they couldn't have just sat a pickguard on it instead of drilling the holes, but some people just don't think too much about resell value when they do things.
It looks great with the guard on it, so it's not a big deal. And also, the Relic model has the holes drilled just like Jaco's bass. So maybe in a way the guy did a favor to this bass :p Always look on the bright side.
Comes with original case. Let me know if you have any questions. $950 shipped inside the 48 states.

  4. Wow, you have one beautiful bass there! Is that fingerboard coated or just bare wood? (read: rounds or flats? :))

I think there is a coating, but it's not glossy. And the strings on right now are half-rounds. Thanks

That's a great looking Jazz Daniel. Is the fretboard rosewood or pao ferro? I think the pickguard actually came with that bass as an uninstalled accessory, like the covers, right?

According to Fenders website, it is Pao Ferro. And I'm not sure about the covers. When I bought it used, it looked just like it does now and did not come with covers.

Daniel, what I meant was that your Jaco Jazz bass came with the pickguard in the case, uninstalled with the screws. It was an uninstalled accessory, not an aftermarket modification. Go back to the Fender website and look at the specs for the bass -- it plainly says brown tort pickguard uninstalled. In other words, your bass is stock -- that's a good thing :)

Im just curious: Will Fender take orders like a Fender Custom Shop Jaco Pastorius tribute jazz bass, relic, but in left handed? Maybe you know something about it... I hope :p

Last time I looked - a couple of months ago - they would not. Can't get a Tony Franklin fless in lefty either. But it wouldn't hurt to call them and ask, things may have changed, you never know.

Why would you put a pick guard on a "Jaco" bass? With the pick guard, it looks like ever other 60s tribute.

  16. Well, you COULD argue that the screw holes 'Jaco" it up a little...
