    hey guys

    Need a spot of advice.

So I have been looking for a JB75 from Fender Japan for a while in Natural with a white guard and a maple neck.

Well I found one I really like with just perfect grain match. But it's made with a Ayus/Obeche body. Means it's pretty light at 8lbs but what else does it mean?

I am not familiar with Ayus/Obeche as a body wood. What say you TalkBass?

    Thanks in advance

Nope. Just googled it. But it's hard to go wrong with Fender Japan. I'm sure it's a great bass.

It's not a common wood for basses. It's also Sunday and the site isn't all that active on weekends.

However, wood really doesn't matter. As long as it's not falling apart and the hardware all stays attached you're good to go.

    I say go for it.
I'm not familiar with Ayus/Obeche, but I am familiar with the Japanese limited edition '75 Jazz Bass - I have an FSR '75 Jazz in CAR with a P/J configuration, and its one of the best sounding, best playing Jazz Basses I've ever owned.
I love the look of that Ayus/Obeche bass, and if it sounds & plays anything like mine, its a winner. :bassist:

  8. Obeche is like old growth alder. It's a lighter wood and has the tonal properties of early fender alder. I have it on my three Skjolds and love the way it sounds.

    Thanks! That's really useful!

I think Gibson is using Obeche on finger boards now for a few lines.
