Anyone else seen these on the Fender Japan site? They look like fun. Scale length is listed at 373.5mm but that's only 14.7" so i would presume that's the distance to the 12th fret and they're more like 29". Not sure though Here's the link to the site: http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/jb62ss.html And here's a video on YouTube:
YES, absolutely.... You need to convert the scale length to inches and double it. The japanese measure the scale from the nut to the 12th fret only. And, absolutely - it is a high end honey, not cheap though.... Best, BassHappy www.innertainment.net
Fender won't sell fender Japan in America and they're making us wait an indeterminate amount of time before they sell the new Squier vm line. I'd like to give my money to the fender corporation in exchange for their goods. They don't seem to want it.
I have purchased a few Fender Japan basses (new and used) through the dealers who sell the Medium Scale Fenders on Ebay. If you seriously want one, go on Ebay, search for - Fender Bass Medium - and email them directly, telling them you want the short scale. Just to be sure of the language barrier, I would do a screen shot of the Smart Scale and send it along so there can be no misunderstanding of what you want. Their prices are in line with the factory prices - you won't get much of a discount - but I have always found them to be very reliable. Of course, be sure to check their ebay history first, most of them are near perfect. And if you send Paypal, use a credit card so you have dispute ability in case you need it. It is a little scary to buy a bass you never played, but if it is new and Fender Japan - well, the quality speaks for itself. They would be happy to take care of you - just remember, shipping can run $100+. Best, BassHappy www.innertainment.net
Ive always considered that but if I'm gonna spend that kind of money I want options if something goes wrong. When the seller is thousands of miles away, your options are limited.
I understand completely - I really do - there is definitely a risk involved - but I have purchased five altogether directly from Japan - and I guess mostly through luck, have been delighted and amazed. All were in the shape advertised, pretty much all needed frets dressed and in some cases the early '80's models needed fret leveling - but other than that they have been amazing. Here is the new Fender 62 Replica exactly like the SS only in medium scale: As long as you have the purchase on a high end credit card you can dispute if anything goes wrong and be immediately credited for your purchase until the merchant haggles it out. Just saying.... BassHappy www.innertainment.net P.S. I look at these often and this price for a medium scale from Fender Japan new of $906 is really good. You can see the other ones on Ebay are just over a grand. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-Japa...M-/251300467932?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a82acd4dc
Thanks DanBass Lot of quality oozing out of Fender Japan for sure! Best, BassHappy www.innertainment.net
How fun. Trivia: I believe aria made high quality 32" scale jazz knock offs in the 70's. it's an option for those who want a shorter scale j
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/nbd-fender-mij-jb62ss-smart-size-short-scale-jazz-bass-1040842/ Arrived the day after Christmas. It's very well made and about the size of a Strat. Sounds big and is easy to play. There are pics and sound clips in the above post.
The JB62SS series has been discontinued. Very sad for those who have yet to play or own one of the best short scale bass guitars on the planet! You can thank Fender USA for another Boneheaded decision, and now that they are running the show with Japan Fender, they seem to be in a big hurry to make the Japanese division just as boring and predictable as they have always been! So... If you have had your eye on one of those unique Japan Fender models that are not available in the states or Europe, you better get off the couch and place that order NOW! Seriously doubt any of these discontinued Japan only models will ever see the light of day again.
