image. image. image. For sale only is a 2003 MIM Jazz bass 5 string that has the nicest feeling asymetrical fender neck Ive felt. I sold off my Made in the US fender 5s because this one is vastly superior in playibility. I just never play it... im a 4 string guy. Black with Rosewood (or pau ferro?) fingerboard in very good condition.

    Upgrades include:
    - USA Hipshot Ultralites 3/8" clover tuners - I just don't like the look of gotoh style tuners on a fender... The Hipshots are a direct fit. I don't think I have the original tuners.... $100 + upgrade
    - Seymour Duncan quarter pounders. Original pickups included. $100 + upgrade
    - Wired standard Vol, Vol, Tone
    - Fender Tort pickguard - Original white PG included. $30 upgrade
    - Fender Tug Bar. $6 upgrade
    - Chrome pickup cover from a Marcus Miller 5 string. $15 upgrade
    - Hipshot string retainer - Original included. $10 upgrade
    - Full Schaller straplocks. $20 upgrade

    That's about $280 in upgrades!

It'll ship with the neck off for protection and to decrease shipping costs.
    $450 with upgrades
$350 stock (You'll still get the hipshot tuners unless I find the old ones)
    Price is Shipped CONUS

In the pic, I have it wired in series so it has VOL/TONE. Itll leave me with vol/vol/tone in parallel (standard Jazz wiring)

What is the " tonal" difference between the pickups the way they are now, or in parallel?

Parallel is the traditional jazz bass set up. In series, the tone beefs up in the mids, but cuts a bit of highs. Also in parallel you can blend the pickups to taste via the 2 volumes/tone controls, but in series it's just volume/tone. I'm more of a p bass guy, and series wiring gives a jazz a bit more of a p bass tone.

I'm digging the series set up. I mean, I always play Amer. Deluxe fives with everything set flat and both pickups...may as well do it the way you are! Lol!

It really adds in the midrange punch. It does trim the highs a bit, but I like that burnished John Paul jones tone anyway.
