Fender Jazz 9 volt vs. Fender Jazz 18 volt

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bradley joe, Jun 14, 2003.

  1. Friends,
First let me say that I completed a search of the board and found nothing that directly answers my question. I currently have a Fender Amercian Deluxe Jazz 5 String with 9v electronics. I yesterday played the new Fender American Deluxe 5 String with 18v electronics. While I understand that the increased voltage in the newer models allows more headroom, does it actually change the fundamental tone? I didn't have my bass to A/B them side by side unfortunately but I would have to say that there was a totally different tone and I wonder if it had anything to do with the new bass having the 18v electronics. The 18v bass seemed to have a lot more low end to it along with more punch with a fuller sound. Any input?
    Thanks,
    Brad
