There are three things I don't want to do this week that I have to do, get my car smogged, file a claim against some jerk who hit my car, and sell this bass.

I am the original owner and this bass was custom built to my specs by Michal Dolan. (http://www.dolanguitars.com/). Everything, with the exception of the Fender Decal on the headstock (which he was reluctant to do), was handled by him. The decal was added professionally locally. Visually this is a closet classic, not a 'relic' with dents, etc. I wanted to go for a Fender Custom Shop style instrument but thought $3,000 and change was a bit excessive.

The body wood is two piece Alder, lightweight. This is an early 60's style which has very smooth, narrow, and pretty cuts to the body. The fretboard is palisander rosewood, a brighter, sweet smelling wood, that is very close tonally to Brazilian rosewood. It smells like cake when you sniff it, which is neat. The neck wood is the most beautiful piece of HIGHLY figured birdseye maple I have ever seen in my life. Under stage lighting, it looks absolutely insane. Too bad only me and the drummer ever get that view! :)

There is mild vintage tint to the wood as well, which plays great against the nitro paintjob. This is a custom, hand built neck, and there's not another like it. The calham clay dots in the fretboard are aged as well, and the neck is equipped with Fender reverse wind tuners. Neck profile is modern/thin and a cross between a "C" and a "D". Satin finish and easy to play. Plays great of course.

Has a barrel saddle bridge, it's all there. Pickups are a set of very excellent Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's. The wiring is VVT, with a push pull on the tone pot to give you standard (in) or P-bass style (out) wiring options.

I am selling because I have 2 Jazz basses, and they are both great. One of them looks like it got thrown in a wood chipper however and the resale value would be terrible. The other is the most beautiful bass I've ever owned (this one). I play my instruments pretty hard so this bass has only seen a few performances and one video/photo shoot. In fact it's only seen performance with my girlfriends band, which is way more mellow and well behaved than my usual fare. :D I'm basically afraid to take it out of the house. I could use the money from this to finish a record I am working on. Weight of this bass is 9 lbs. and 1 ounce.

Will ship with a tweed hard shell case (see picture).

The only flaw in this bass is some very small marks in the nitro on the back (see pic for this). It was from my belt buckle during a photo shoot. That's it.

Price is US $1,500.00. That's just a touch more than a new standard American jazz bass, but with better pickups, better paint, and better wood.

I prefer a local to SoCal buyer who can pick 'er up and pay cash, since paypal takes a pound of flesh. But can ship and deal with paypal as well... Any questions, fire away.

This is the area with small marks on the back of the body, from my buckle.

The body has very nice contours, as seen here.

So even though this has all the Fender decals, it really doesn't have any real Fender parts, and wasn't made by Fender in any way. In fact this bass was made from scratch by Michael Dolan.

So isn't this a Michael Dolan Jazz Bass?

    Am I correct ?

It's a tough color to photograph but here's one with some different lighting that I took. I can say it looks stunning in person without a doubt.

Beautiful bass, love the color. You have it listed as a "Fender" Jazz. Is it actually a Fender? I'm a bit confused.

Thanks. All the Hardware is Fender, and the body is Fender spec, but the bass was a custom build from Michael Dolan.

Michael Dolan does absolute first class work. I'm sure this is as good as any thing out there.
