I want to replace the pickups on my MIM Jazz bass. The Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups seem promising. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about these pickups? Are they versatile? How do they sound and how is their output? What else might you recommend I use without modification to the bass? Thanks, Dan
They're really nice pickups with a very detailed tone to my ears. I think that they would work really good for you if you have a rosewood board; with a maple board and swamp ash body, they can get bright (I have them on a frankenbass with this combination). I imagine that you will notice a huge difference in punch and tone. tapp
I posted this in another thread about MIM pickup changes. I put a set of these in my '98 MIM Jazz. I like them so much that when I sold the MIM, I kept the CS '60s and put them in my new '00 MIA Jazz. If I hadn't had them on hand, I would have stayed with the stock MIA pups, their quite good as well. But, I had the CS '60s so in they went. I like even more in my MIA than I did in my MIM. Although they didn't make as big a difference in the MIA as they did the MIM. They're hotter with more clarity than the MIM pups were. Or maybe it's just the clarity that makes them seem to be hotter. Really good top to bottom sound. I lean more to bottom as my primary basses are P's and an RB-5. I don't think that the're really better than the stock MIA pups, just different. I like the difference. If you're looking for a really nice set of pups that won't break the bank, these are the ones.
I had them in my Geddy Lee Jbass and they were awesome, I sold the Geddy and I installed them in my 77 Jbass and they made it come alive. Nice round tone and they have a pretty hot output. I recomend them but thats just my opinion,
I like the 60's custom shop jazz pickups better than any other jazz pickup I've tried and I have tried a lot of them.
