Disclaimer: I know very little about guitar electronics. :meh:

My 2002 American Deluxe Jazz V has developed a slight buzz. It's not so much a problem live but is very noticeable when plugging straight into a DI when recording. This issue was discovered at my friend's studio even when trying different DIs and preamps.

I know that it probably needs shielding which it doesn't have. I got the test meter out and started checking ground connections and it seems that ground is connected between strings/bridge/control plate.

The strange thing is that the exposed pole pieces of the pickups are also connected to ground. Is this right? None of my other basses are like that.
