If my budget is $1000, and I'm set on a Jazz tone - do I go ahead with a Fender? Or are there others who do a Jazz better than Fender (in your opinion, of course - it's all subjective). I know I want a Jazz tone, but the only Jazz's I can play around me are Fenders (which I may very well get) and Squiers. But others look nice - G&L, Lakland, etc. Whatcha think??? I'll get what feels and sounds the best (at least, of those I get a chance to play). But I'm hoping to hear some ideas I had not thought of. I'm not against buying used, either. Thank you!
A Fender is a Fender is a Fender. While others may get "close" to the Fender sound, nobody can do it like the original. And you just might want to check out my ad too.
Ooh - I just did. Very nice!! My purchase will have to wait until after Christmas, though - I can't see that little fella being around that long!! Thanks for the advice, as well. That's actually how I've been leaning myself. Just wanted a little moral support, I guess, to put me over the top!!
The Fender Highway One (upgraded with BA bridge and graphite rods in the neck) is a great bass for the money and well within your budget. I own one and love it. They're well thought of on this forum.
every day one "should I buy fender jazz bass " thread! i think fender are the best basses in the world - they started it all, they still leads the industry - while today you have milion more or less succesfull copies of "jazz bass" noone match price/look/feel/sound/reputation ratio of fender.
BIG +1 here. They are seriously fantastic basses for the money, they are loaded with so much good stuff its not funny!
I would buy a Lakland JO with Fralin Pickups. That's the closet you'll get to a Pre-Cbs Jazz in your budget.
Get a USA Fender... The Highway 1s are nice, but you can get a standard USA new or used with more color options. Used to be a big fan of the highway one finish, but the finishes I've seen have not aged well... IMHO
